Intrinergy, a U.S.-based renewable energy company, and Shanks Group plc, a leading European waste management company, today announced closing €34 million ($47 million) in debt financing from NORD/LB, one of Germany’s leading renewable energy banks, to begin construction of Intrinergy VARE Holdings, a biomass energy project located in Belgium.

Intrinergy was featured in the September/October 2008 issue of North American Clean Energy, a bimonthly magazine that covers trends and current issues across the renewable energy sector. The article highlights the benefits of converting from fossil fuels to biomass in industrial applications, citing examples of savings realized at the paper mill serviced by Intrinergy’s Wiggins, Mississippi plant. Intrinergy was featured in the September 18, 2008 issue of Clean Technology Insight, a Dow Jones e-newsletter which covers the alternative energy markets. The article highlights Intrinergy’s expanding work in both the U.S. and abroad, as well as the company’s success in securing financing from top-tier investors and private equity firms. The Intrinergy success story was recently highlighted in the September cover story of Global Finance Magazine. The article cited the tremendous surge in global investment in clean-energy technologies (despite the downturn in the financial markets), and Intrinergy was presented as a prime example of a smaller scale cleantech project which is providing tailored and affordable alternative energy solutions.
