Norb Hintz is a founding member of Intrinergy and is the Vice President of Engineering. As the VP of Engineering, Norb is responsible for all technical aspects of project development, implementation, and continuous improvement of existing operations.
Norb has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of facility design, construction, operations and reliability. Activities included economic analysis, conceptual engineering, process evaluation and engineering, facility layout, safety review, HAZOP, staffing, material contracts, start-up, and ongoing process improvement of each Intrinergy and Enviva facility.
Examples of Norb’s experiences in renewable energy include:
- Conception, design, construction, start-up and current ongoing process improvement activities for our 52,000 lb/hr biomass steam plant in Wiggins, Mississippi;
- Project management, engineering review, and process leadership for the integration of a new 44,000 lb/hr biomass steam plant, 1.1MW electric generating reciprocating steam engine, and an additional 60,000 tons/year of wood pellet production at our Straubing Germany facility;
- All facets of development, execution and startup of our 45 MMBTU/hr Pyrolysis Syngas facility in Coshocton Ohio;
- Feasibility, conceptual design, preliminary design, and EPC awarding our new 40,000 lb/hr 650 psig/750 degree biomass fired CHP steam facility currently under construction in Liege Belgium. When completed in mid 2010 the facility will produce4.5 MW of electricity and 60,000 ton/yr wood pellets.
- Development of numerous biomass fired energy system solutions for pipeline customers ranging from hogged, waste bark to OCC and paper fired systems for the production of thermal oil, process steam, hot gasses, and electrical power. System sizes ranging from 20 mm Btu to over 300 mm Btu/hr.
Norb has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, 1987, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of South Carolina.
